You leave the salon feeling great. Your hair sits perfectly, the movement feels effortless, and everything looks exactly how you imagined. Then a few days later, you wash it at home, try to recreate the same look, and something feels different. It is a common experience, and it does not mean you are doing anything wrong.

At DooWop Hair in South Fremantle, we hear this all the time. The reality is that salon results come down to a combination of technique, tools, preparation, and small details that are easy to overlook at home. Once you understand what creates that difference, it becomes much easier to get closer to that same finish yourself.

It Starts Before the Styling Even Begins

One of the biggest differences between salon results and at-home styling is preparation.

In the salon, your hair is carefully washed, conditioned, and prepped using products suited to your hair type and the result being created. Moisture levels are balanced, excess weight is avoided, and the hair is prepared to respond well to styling.

At home, small differences in shampoo, conditioner, or even how thoroughly products are rinsed can change how your hair behaves. If the hair is too soft, too dry, or slightly weighed down, it will not hold the same shape.

Product Use Is More Precise Than It Looks

It can feel like stylists use more products, but in reality, it is about how they are used.
In the salon, product placement is controlled. Lighter products are used near the roots, while anything heavier is kept away from the scalp. The amount is also carefully adjusted based on your hair density and length.

At home, it is easy to use slightly too much or apply products too close to the roots. This can reduce movement, flatten volume, or make the hair feel heavier than intended.

Small adjustments in quantity and placement can make a noticeable difference.

Blow-Drying Technique Changes Everything

One of the biggest factors is how the hair is dried.

In the salon, blow-drying is not just about drying the hair. It is about directing it. The angle of the brush, the tension applied, and the direction of airflow all influence how the hair sets.

Hair is often dried in sections, with attention to root lift, smoothness, and shape. Even the final few passes of the brush can affect how polished the result looks.

At home, hair is often dried more quickly and without sectioning, which can lead to less control and a different finish.

Tools Play a Bigger Role Than Expected

Salon tools are designed for performance. From professional-grade dryers to well-maintained brushes, they allow for more control and consistency.

At home, tools may not provide the same airflow, heat control, or precision. This does not mean you need to invest in everything used in a salon, but understanding how your tools behave can help you adjust your technique.

Even something as simple as using the right brush size for your hair length can improve results.

The Haircut Itself Makes a Difference

A well-executed haircut should support styling, not work against it.

At DooWop Hair, we design cuts that sit well naturally and respond easily to styling. However, how a haircut behaves also depends on how it is styled day to day.

If the cut is designed to move in a certain way but is styled differently at home, the result may feel unfamiliar. Sometimes, small changes in how you style your hair can bring it much closer to how it looked in the salon.

Timing and Patience Matter

In the salon, there is time and focus. Hair is dried properly, sections are controlled, and the final result is refined carefully. At home, styling is often rushed. Hair may still be slightly damp when finishing, or sections may be larger, which reduces control.

Taking a little more time, even occasionally, can help you understand how your hair responds and improve consistency.

It Is Not About Perfection

Salon results are created in a controlled environment with full attention on your hair. At home, your routine needs to be realistic and manageable. The goal is not to replicate the salon result exactly every time. It is to get your hair to a place where it feels good, sits well, and works with your routine.

Understanding the key differences simply helps you get closer to that result more consistently.

Small Changes That Make a Real Difference

If your hair never feels quite the same at home, it usually comes down to a few small adjustments rather than one big issue. Using slightly less product, improving how you blow-dry, or changing how you section your hair can all have a noticeable impact.

Even learning one or two techniques from your stylist can make your daily routine easier and more effective.

Bringing the Salon Feel Home

At DooWop Hair in South Fremantle, our goal is not just to give you great hair in the salon, but to help you feel confident managing it at home.

If you ever feel unsure about how to style your hair, we are always happy to guide you through what will work best for your cut and texture.

With the right approach, your hair can feel more consistent, more manageable, and much closer to that salon finish, even on your busiest days.

We have all done it. You find a haircut online, save the photo, walk into the salon thinking, “That’s the one.” But once it is done, something feels slightly off.

The cut itself may be beautiful. The styling may be flawless. Yet it does not quite feel like you.

In most cases, it comes down to proportion.

At DooWop Hair in South Fremantle, one of the first things we assess during a consultation is how a haircut will frame your face. Not to restrict you or follow rigid rules, but to make sure the result feels balanced, flattering, and effortless long after you leave the salon.

It Is About Balance, Not Rules

Face shape is not about strict guidelines. It is about harmony.

Hair frames your features. The length, layering, parting, and overall shape influence how the eye travels across your face. The right structure can soften strong angles, create width where needed, or subtly elongate proportions. The wrong balance can unintentionally emphasise areas you would rather downplay.

The goal is not to hide your features. It is to support them.

A Quick Way to Understand Your Face Shape

If you are unsure about your face shape, pull your hair back and look at the outline of your face in the mirror. Notice the width of your forehead, cheekbones, and jawline. Pay attention to the overall length compared to width.

Most people fall into one of these general categories:

Oval

Round

Square

Heart

Long

Many people are a blend of two shapes, which is completely normal. That is why professional interpretation is always more accurate than an online quiz.

Oval: The Flexible Shape

If your face is slightly longer than it is wide, with soft and balanced proportions, you likely have an oval shape.

Oval faces tend to suit most haircuts. Blunt bobs, soft layers, pixie cuts, long waves, curtain fringes, you have flexibility. Instead of focusing on correction, the conversation shifts to personal style and maintenance level.

For oval shapes, the question is less about what works and more about what you want to express.

Round: Creating Gentle Length

Round faces often have fuller cheeks and softer contours, with similar width and length.

Here, subtle elongation creates balance. Longer layers, off-centre parts, and cuts that fall below the chin can visually lengthen the face. Lift at the crown adds height without adding width at the sides.

This does not mean avoiding shorter styles altogether. It simply means being mindful of where volume sits. Shape placement makes all the difference.

Square: Softening Structure

Square faces are known for strong jawlines and broader foreheads. They carry structure beautifully.

Adding softness creates harmony. Texture through the mid-lengths, movement at the ends, and softer fringes can balance strong angles. Extremely blunt cuts can sometimes exaggerate sharpness, so internal layering often helps maintain strength while introducing fluidity.

Strong features are not something to disguise. They simply need the right support.

Heart: Balancing the Lower Face

Heart-shaped faces are wider at the forehead and taper towards a narrower chin.

The key is adding visual weight to the lower half of the face. Chin-length bobs, layered mid-length cuts, and side-swept fringes often work well. Avoiding too much height at the crown helps prevent additional width at the top.

Soft texture through the ends creates balance naturally.

Long: Creating Width and Softness

Long face shapes benefit from cuts that add width rather than extra length.

Shoulder-length styles, waves, and fringes can visually shorten the face. Volume through the sides rather than the top helps maintain proportion. Extremely long, flat styles may elongate the face further, so introducing movement is essential.

Shape brings balance.

The Power of Fringe and Parting

One of the most overlooked tools in haircut design is fringe placement.

A fringe can completely change proportions. Curtain fringes soften and widen narrow faces. Side-swept fringes can break up roundness. Full fringes can shorten longer face shapes.

Even adjusting the part from centre to side can shift balance significantly. Sometimes a subtle change in direction is more impactful than removing length.

Face Shape Is Only One Piece of the Puzzle

While face shape is important, it is never the only factor.

We also consider:

Hair density

Natural texture

Growth patterns

Styling habits

How often you visit the salon

Fine hair needs structure to avoid falling flat. Thick hair often requires internal weight removal. Curly hair behaves very differently to straight hair. Someone who air-dries daily needs a different approach compared to someone who heat styles regularly.

At DooWop Hair, we combine proportion with practicality.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Choosing a haircut based purely on trend is one of the biggest mistakes. Another is copying a celebrity cut without considering differences in bone structure or hair type.

Over-layering fine hair can reduce fullness. Going too blunt on very thick hair can create heaviness. Ignoring growth patterns can lead to styling frustration.

A good haircut should grow out well and require minimal daily effort.

Why Consultation Changes Everything

Often, the biggest transformations come from small refinements. Adjusting length slightly. Repositioning a fringe. Removing internal weight instead of taking everything shorter.

During your consultation at DooWop Hair in South Fremantle, we assess your features, observe how your hair naturally falls, and discuss how much styling you realistically want to do.

The best haircut is one that:

Frames your features naturally

Works with your texture

Feels manageable at home

Still looks good weeks later

The Cut That Feels Like You

When a haircut truly suits your face shape and lifestyle, something shifts. It feels effortless. It feels balanced. You stop adjusting it in the mirror every morning.

Trends may change, but proportion always works.

If you are thinking about a change but want to make sure it genuinely suits you, book a consultation at DooWop Hair in South Fremantle. We will help you choose a cut that enhances your features, supports your routine, and feels confidently yours.

For many women, great hair feels like something that should come naturally, yet daily reality often involves heat tools, styling products, and time that simply is not always available. Between work, family, social commitments, and everything else life brings, styling your hair every morning can start to feel like a chore. At DooWop Hair in South Fremantle, we believe hair should fit into your lifestyle, not demand more from it. Effortless hair is not about neglecting your look. It is about making smarter choices that allow your hair to look good with minimal daily effort.

When hair is cut and cared for correctly, it naturally behaves better. The key lies in understanding your hair’s texture, movement, and natural growth patterns, then working with them rather than against them.

What Effortless Hair Really Means

Effortless hair does not mean unstyled or unpolished. It means your haircut, colour, and care routine are designed so your hair looks intentional even on low-effort days. When your hair falls into place naturally, you spend less time correcting it and more time enjoying it.

This starts with a haircut that supports your natural texture. Hair that is cut without considering how it dries, moves, or sits will always require extra styling. On the other hand, a well-shaped cut creates balance, removes excess bulk where needed, and encourages natural movement.

Choosing a Cut That Works With Your Lifestyle

One of the biggest mistakes people make is choosing a haircut based solely on how it looks in photos. What works beautifully for someone else may not suit your hair type or daily routine. Effortless hair begins with honesty about how much time you realistically want to spend styling.

Shorter styles such as bobs and textured pixies can be incredibly low maintenance when shaped properly. They hold their structure well and often need little more than a rough dry and a small amount of product. Medium-length cuts like long bobs offer flexibility and movement while remaining easy to manage. For those who love length, strategic layering helps long hair feel lighter, more cooperative, and easier to wear day to day.

At DooWop Hair, we always consider how you wear your hair most often, not just how it looks when freshly styled in the salon.

Working With Your Natural Texture

Your natural texture plays a major role in how effortless your hair feels. Wavy, curly, straight, and fine hair all behave differently, and the best results come from embracing what your hair naturally does.

When cuts are designed with texture in mind, hair dries more evenly and holds its shape longer. Waves become softer and more defined, curls sit more predictably, and straight hair looks smoother without constant heat styling. Fighting natural texture usually leads to frustration and extra effort. Supporting it creates ease.

The Role of Colour in Effortless Hair

Hair colour can either simplify your routine or make it more demanding. Natural, blended colour techniques tend to grow out more softly and require less maintenance. When colour placement complements your cut, it enhances movement and depth without needing daily styling to look its best.

Overly high-contrast colour can require more frequent touch-ups and styling to keep it looking intentional. Subtle dimension, on the other hand, allows hair to look polished even when worn naturally.

Simplifying Your Product Routine

Effortless hair does not require a shelf full of products. In fact, using too many products often weighs hair down and creates build-up, making styling harder rather than easier. A simplified routine focused on quality over quantity usually delivers better results.

A lightweight leave-in conditioner improves manageability and softness. Texture sprays or creams add movement without heaviness. Curl creams help define natural waves and curls without stiffness. Heat protectant is essential if you occasionally style, but the goal is to reduce reliance on daily heat altogether.

Using fewer products consistently allows your hair to behave more predictably.

Why Haircuts Need Ongoing Care

Even low-effort hair needs occasional maintenance. Regular trims keep the shape intact and prevent split ends from affecting how your hair sits. When ends are healthy, hair looks smoother and styles more easily.

Effortless hair is not about avoiding the salon. It is about choosing cuts and routines that stay looking good between visits. During appointments, we often recommend trim schedules that suit your haircut and lifestyle so your hair remains easy to manage.

Letting Your Hair Do the Work

The most effortless hair often comes from letting go of the idea that hair must look perfectly styled every day. Soft movement, natural texture, and lived-in finishes are all part of modern hair trends. When your cut and care routine are right, your hair does much of the work for you.

At DooWop Hair in South Fremantle, our focus is on creating styles that feel natural, wearable, and realistic for everyday life. We believe hair should support your confidence, not add pressure to your routine.

If you are ready to spend less time styling and more time enjoying your hair, book an appointment with our team and let us help you create a look that truly feels effortless.

Between early starts, late finishes and everything in between, most women do not have the luxury of spending half an hour styling their hair each morning. A great haircut should fit seamlessly into your lifestyle and make your daily routine easier, not more complicated. At DooWop Hair in South Fremantle, we see many clients looking for styles that feel effortless while still giving them confidence with every step out the door.

Low-maintenance hair is not about choosing the simplest option. It is about choosing the right shape, the right length and the right texture so your hair naturally behaves well without much encouragement. When a cut works with your hair, not against it, getting ready becomes faster, smoother and far more enjoyable.

Why the Right Low-Maintenance Cut Matters

Every head of hair has its own personality. Some textures fall into place easily, while others need a bit more guidance. A low-maintenance cut enhances what your hair already does well. It embraces your texture, softens areas that feel heavy, and adds movement where things tend to fall flat. The result is hair that looks styled even when you have not done much to it at all.

The most successful cuts are the ones that grow out beautifully, feel natural to wear and do not require complicated routines or multiple products. This is where expert shaping and technique make all the difference.

The Timeless Ease of the Bob

For women who want something polished with minimal effort, the bob has remained a favourite for decades. Its clean shape offers structure without requiring daily heat styling, and it suits a wide range of face shapes and hair textures. A textured bob creates soft movement and an easygoing feel, while a blunt bob gives a sleek, modern outline that still maintains its shape as it grows.

Bobs are ideal for women who want hair that looks refined without effort and suits both casual and professional settings.

The Long Bob: A Practical, Stylish Middle Ground

The long bob, or lob, has become a true go to style for busy women. Sitting around the collarbone, it offers the freedom of longer hair without the weight or difficulty often associated with it. Lobs grow out gracefully and work beautifully with natural waves, giving a soft, effortless shape even on days when you simply air dry your hair.

This is a great option if you like being able to tie your hair back but want something that looks styled with minimal work.

Short, Chic and Surprisingly Simple: The Textured Pixie

A textured pixie is one of the easiest cuts to live with when shaped correctly. It enhances natural movement, adds definition around the face and keeps styling to an absolute minimum. A small amount of cream or paste is often all you need. Pixies are expressive, confident and incredibly practical for women who prefer short hair that still feels modern and feminine.

Long Layers for Manageable Length

Many women love the look and feel of long hair but struggle to keep it manageable. Long layers help remove bulk, soften the ends and encourage movement, making your hair fall more naturally without needing to style it every day. With the right distribution of layers, long hair feels lighter, healthier and far more cooperative.

This is a strong choice for women who want to keep their length but still enjoy a low-maintenance routine.

Supporting Your Cut With the Right Routine

A low-maintenance cut pairs best with a simple, thoughtful routine. You do not need a long list of products; a few reliable essentials used consistently make all the difference. A lightweight leave-in conditioner improves softness and manageability, while a texture spray enhances bobs and lobs without weighing them down. Curly and wavy hair benefits from a minimal amount of curl cream to help define the pattern.

The focus is ease, not complication.

Keeping Your Shape Fresh

Even the most effortless haircut needs occasional attention. A quick trim helps maintain shape, remove split ends and keep movement where it is intended. Shorter styles may require slightly more frequent visits, while longer layered cuts can go a little longer between appointments. We can recommend a schedule that supports your chosen style and keeps it looking its best.

Find the Style That Fits Your Life

Your ideal low-maintenance haircut should feel like an extension of who you are. Whether you prefer the clean structure of a bob, the relaxed movement of a lob, the bold simplicity of a pixie or the freedom of long layers, the right cut can transform your everyday routine.

At DooWop Hair in South Fremantle, we love helping women discover styles that look beautiful, feel effortless and work naturally with their hair. If you are ready for a fresh, easy to manage look, book an appointment and let us create a cut that gives you confidence every day.

Why Beach Waves Are a Timeless Favourite

There is a reason why beach waves have remained one of the most requested hairstyles in salons across Australia. They’re relaxed, romantic, and full of movement - that perfect mix of casual and chic. Whether you’re heading to brunch in Fremantle, spending a lazy day on South Beach, or getting ready for a night out, beach waves add effortless charm to any look.

The beauty of this style is that it works for almost everyone. Short, long, thick, or fine hair - it’s all about texture and attitude. And while it might look like the ocean styled it for you, a little technique and the right products can help you recreate that same natural finish at home.

Step 1: Prep Your Hair for the Perfect Texture

Every great hairstyle starts with a clean and balanced foundation. Begin with a lightweight volumising shampoo and conditioner that won’t weigh your hair down. Avoid heavy moisturising formulas as they can make your waves limp before you even start styling.

Towel-dry your hair gently to remove excess water. Rough drying can cause frizz, especially in humid coastal climates like Fremantle’s. Once your hair is damp, apply a small amount of sea salt spray or texture mist. This gives your hair that signature grit and body associated with true beach waves.

If you have thicker or frizz-prone hair, mix in a leave-in conditioner or heat protectant to help your hair retain moisture while you style. The goal is to create soft, touchable texture - not crunchy stiffness.

Step 2: Master the No-Heat Method

Not everyone has time for styling tools, and the good news is you don’t need them to achieve beautiful beach waves. Here are a few simple techniques to try:

Braids before bed: Lightly mist your damp hair with salt spray and braid it loosely. In the morning, undo it and shake out your waves with your fingers.

Twisted buns: Divide your hair into two or three sections, twist each into a bun, and secure it. Once dry, release the buns and tousle gently for soft, uneven waves.

Plopping method: For naturally wavy hair, wrap your damp hair in a microfibre towel or cotton T-shirt to enhance your natural pattern without frizz.

These no-heat styles are perfect for busy mornings or for anyone trying to avoid excess styling damage.

Step 3: Using Heat for a Polished Look

When you want your waves to look a bit more refined, heat styling is your best friend. Using a curling wand or straightener, take medium-sized sections of hair and wrap them loosely around the barrel. Alternate directions to create a more natural finish.

The trick is not to curl the ends too tightly. Leave them out slightly to maintain that “undone” vibe. Once your hair has cooled, use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb to separate and soften the curls. Avoid using a brush - it can cause frizz and take away the texture you worked so hard to create.

At DooWop Hair, we recommend GHD styling tools, as their adjustable heat settings protect the hair while providing consistent, long-lasting results.

Step 4: Finish Strong with the Right Products

Beach waves are all about movement and touchable texture. To keep them looking natural, avoid heavy hairsprays. Instead, go for light-hold texturising sprays or soft mousse products that let your hair move freely.

Some salon favourites include:

Evo Salty Dog Spray for that natural, windswept feel.

Moroccanoil Beach Wave Mousse for a bit of structure and shine.

Dry shampoo to add volume at the roots on the second day.

Finish your look with a few drops of serum or light oil to add shine and reduce flyaways.

Step 5: Keep Your Waves Looking Fresh

One of the best things about beach waves is their flexibility. You can refresh them easily without starting over. A quick spritz of salt spray or dry shampoo can revive flat areas and restore texture.

If you want to make your waves last overnight, braid your hair loosely or tie it up in a silk scrunchie before bed. This prevents friction and keeps the shape intact until morning.

For coastal locals in Fremantle, remember that salt and sun exposure can dry out hair. Incorporate a weekly hydrating treatment or deep conditioner to maintain shine and softness.

Step 6: Let the Professionals Help

While beach waves are easy to achieve at home, getting them tailored to your hair type can make a big difference. At DooWop Hair South Fremantle, our stylists personalise the technique for your texture, whether it’s short and layered or long and thick.

We use premium products that deliver body and shine while keeping your hair healthy. You can book a styling session for a special occasion or learn how to recreate the look at home with our professional guidance.

Your Effortless Look Awaits

Beach waves are more than a hairstyle - they’re a lifestyle. They represent freedom, ease, and that signature Australian sense of confidence. With the right prep, technique, and a little help from your stylist, you can achieve that laid-back yet sophisticated look any day of the week.

The dream of healthy and beautiful hair on a daily basis is something we all strive to achieve. But do you feel like you have to do a million and one things to just stop yourself from having a bad hair day? Not all of these processes may be beneficial for your specific hair, so it’s always best to consult with a professional hairdresser to get on track with your hair care routine. There are all sorts of things that hair experts say can keep your hair in check, but the team of stylists at DooWop Hair have put together this list of the top hair care tips to keep in mind. These are essential tips that we believe are suitable for the vast majority of people out there, and we always encourage anything that you believe adds the health and vibrancy of your hair.

1. Condition Properly

Conditioning your hair is an important part of your hair care routine, and a high-quality conditioner should be a top priority of yours when scouring the shelves next time you’re at the shops. The ingredients in a conditioner help to make your hair more manageable, allowing it to fall straight and protects it against heat styling. However, you should always remember to apply it to the tips of your hair, rather than the scalp itself. Be thorough in your washing and remember to make sure it is all washed out from your hair after using it.

2. Regularly Trim Your Hair

Going for that regular touch up can help to boost the appearance and health of your hair in a flash. Depending on the rate at which your hair grows, you should try book in for a personalised haircut every 6-8 weeks or so, to make sure you’re effectively getting rid of those split ends. Contrary to popular belief, these regular trims won’t make your hair grow any faster, but they will help in keeping your hair nice and healthy.

3. Drink Plenty Of Water

This is often one that many of forget to do amongst our busy daily lives, but it can have an enormous effect on the quality of your hair and an array of other aspects of your life. Just as you focus on hydration for your hair and on your skin with moisturiser, you need to analyse just how much hydration you’re giving your body itself. Drinking more water can help to ensure your hair is more healthy and well-balanced, particularly as the seasons change.

4. Avoid Products With Nasty Chemicals

Just like you might want to read the list of ingredients in certain foods that you buy, you should always check the ingredients in different hair care products that you’re thinking about purchasing. Shampoo is a big part of our shower routine, and you should always choose natural shampoos that contain no chemicals or other harmful ingredients that could damage your hair. Instead, choose a gentler shampoo that is suited to your hair type and helps to complement your hair without creating any irritation.

5. Coconut Oil

Another essential hair care tip is to use coconut oil or another suitable natural oil to help nourish your hair. Applying coconut oil as you massage your scalp before you apply shampoo in the shower can help to boost the blood circulation in your scalp, relax your muscles and leaving your hair more glossy.

The spring season offers warmer weather, blossoming flowers, and the incredible events that the Australian racing season brings about. Although this year has obviously been significantly affected by unprecedented events, the racing season is set to continue, albeit in a slightly different fashion than what we’re used to. This is often a special time of the year that people like to use as an excuse to get dressed up, or try out a new spring racing hairstyle for different events. If you’re looking for a hairdresser in Fremantle that offers the top spring racing hairstyles, then look no further. Our dedicated team at DooWop Hair have put together this list of styles that you won’t be able to miss throughout the spring in 2021.

High Pony

Although the ponytail is a hairstyle that can be a quick and simple everyday look for many of us, it can also prove to be very stylish and sleek when done correctly. A high pony has the ability to complement all sorts of stunning outfits that you may be eyeing up to wear for this spring racing season. This hairstyle provides you with the ultimate easy and adaptable look to match hair accessories and fascinators with. Clip-in extensions can also be a fabulous addition to the hairstyle, particularly if your pony is slightly wavy.

Longer Bob

You don’t always have to think about having your hair up for the spring racing season. If your hair is slightly shorter in length, but longer than a traditional bob, having that slightly longer bob can be a sleek look to have worn down. These longer bobs are low maintenance and look amazing with a wide array of fascinators. At the moment you may not have the appropriate length for this hairstyle, so please visit our hair salon in Fremantle for a trim if you’re looking for a fresh look for spring.

Braid Into Bun

The brain into bun hairstyle is an interesting way to add some more life to your traditional hairstyles. Turning that simple braid into a bun can add some sophistication to your look that will be sure to turn heads at all sorts of events this spring. You have the choice of either a braid down the back or braiding your hair on the side. You can experiment with this and see what works best for you and your outfit and headpiece. The hairstylists in Fremantle at DooWop Hair can help create the perfect braid into a bun look for you, and discover what may work best with your hair type and length.

Beachy Waves

This is another super chic look where you don’t have to worry about keeping your hair up for the whole day! Beautiful beachy waves can be an incredible spring racing hairstyle to complete your look for 2021. You can achieve these beachy waves by visiting our hair salon in Fremantle for professional blow waves and styling services.

As we shed the winter layers and look ahead into the warm spring and summer months ahead, it’s a good time to reflect and look at what spring haircut may be a good option for you. With many people choosing to grow their hair a little longer in the colder months, you might now want to think about getting that clean buzz cut you’ve been dreaming about. Or perhaps you’re looking for a low maintenance cut that perfectly suits your lifestyle. No matter your hair type, the team at DooWop Hair have put together a sharp little list of some of the best spring haircuts for men in 2021. If your current look just isn’t cutting it, read on to discover your new trim.

Choppy Crop

The choppy crop is the perfect new spring haircut for men looking to achieve a low maintenance or “messy” look, allowing for a comfortable and easy cut as the temperatures slowly creep up. Being a little less sharp than other types of crop haircuts, it’s a bit of a more approachable cut for men to try. The team at DooWop would like to point out that this particular style looks best with plenty of interesting texture in the hair, or simply left messy.

Groomed, 40s Style Mid Fade

One of the great things that often comes with spring is the abundance of weddings or garden parties. This groomed, 40s style mid fade is the ideal cut for the spring wedding season. It’s a clean and sophisticated cut with a polished finish, making it a perfect style for the many formal situations you’re probably going to find yourself in. This style mid fade does require pomade and a styling comb to keep the hair in shape after having a shower.

Spring Buzz Cut

The classic buzz cut has seen a resurgence in recent times, particularly with many men opting to take matters into their own hands during lockdown periods. As buzz cuts grew in popularity in the first half of the year, the springtime is the most ideal period to try out this short and sharp look. Not only is it incredibly low maintenance, but if you ask your hairdresser for a slightly less extreme number (you don’t always have to go for a number 1!), you can add some nice texture to the cut.

Grown Out Fade

Choosing a fade cut where the sides are even with a grown-out top is a nice switch up from that usual look, where the sides go from very short to more thick near the top. This is a sleek, short and clean look, that still requires little maintenance for those of you looking for more of a “get up and go” cut.

Straightening your hair can be a difficult task for many people around the world. There are a number of different ways that you can go about hair straightening, with there being a certain few methods that offer a more long lasting solution.

Yuko hair straightening is one such method that was created in 1996 by a Japanese hair stylist by the name of Yuko Yamashita. Yuko understood the trouble and time consuming process that normal hair straightening was causing on people’s lives and wanted to introduce an effective method that would permanently leave hair smooth, straight and healthy. This blog from the DooWop Hair team is your guide on Yuko hair straightening, and whether or not it could be right for you on your next visit to our hair salon in Fremantle!

How does Yuko hair straightening work?

Unlike other hair straightening techniques,Yuko hair straightening is far superior as this method works to physically change the internal structure of your hair, leaving it in a permanent straight flow. At DooWop Hair we apply the Yuko solution to your hair, and leaving it to saturate. Once we have then rinsed the solution off, we can then blow dry and flat iron your hair, creating that permanent straight shape that you are trying to achieve. The last step is to apply the neutraliser to help condition the newly straightened hair. From here we simply rinse off the neutraliser and style it in the way that you wish!

What are the benefits of Yuko hair straightening?

The Yuko hair straightening treatment is internationally renowned for its success and efficacy. What makes it more beneficial than other hair straightening techniques? Let’s find out why.

It provides long lasting results, whilst preserving the overall integrity and health of the hair being treated. One of the great benefits of the treatment is that because it is a permanent solution, you only have to come in one or two times a year for treatment. It’s a cost effective way to ensure you’re maintaining healthy and straight hair for longer.

Furthermore, it also saves you an incredible amount of time, as you won’t have to use that trusty flat iron all the time. The gentle results of the treatment also mean that it offers easy daily management and requires minimal styling. This adds some much needed time to your daily routine that you can use for something more productive.

One thing to point out is that the Yuko method is recommended for new growth, and you should wait a minimum of 4 months before having it done if you have recently had a keratin or relaxer treatment. Although this hair treatment can work on all types of hair, we do take extra precautions with those who have highlighted or damaged hair as well.

How does it differ from other hair straightening methods?

The Yuko hair straightening treatment tends to last longer than many other hair straightening methods. The other two popular and common methods are the Brazilian and Keratin treatments, which both temporarily coat the hair to leave it smooth and straight. Unfortunately, these methods tend to wash out in around 3 months on average, making your hair return to its natural shape if you don’t keep reapplying. This means you’ll need to visit your usual hair salon in Fremantle quite often if you want to continue with those methods and keep your hair straight. This makes hair straightening quite hazardous chemicals, which can affect the health of your hair and yourself as well.

DooWop Hair - Hair Salon in Fremantle

Now that you know all about Yuko hair straightening, you can decide whether it may be a good option for you. DooWop Hair is the ambassador salon for the Yuko treatment in WA, with our manager Larissa being the WA educator for the product.

The team at our hair salon in Fremantle are all trained in applying the Yuko treatment and are here to answer any further questions you have about the procedure.

The team at our hair salon in Fremantle are all trained in applying the Yuko treatment and are here to answer any further questions you have about the procedure.
Hair trends are constantly going in and out of style, but the curtain bang trend has gone and come back full circle. Introducing the 70s curtain bang, made popular in the 2000s by celebrities such as Alexa Chung, Camilla Cabeho and Jennifer Lopez.

If you want to change up and revamp your look without going too dramatic, consider these face framing bangs. Curly hair or straight hair, we haven't found someone this style doesn’t suit, so why not sport the popular curtain bang for yourself.

What are curtain bangs?

As we all know this face framing style first became popular in the 1970s. Imagine a longer fringe parted down the middle, framing both sides of the face - voilà, you have the curtain bang! The curtain bang style gives an effortless, sweet, younger look.

We’ve found that curtain bangs look great on everyone! Whether your hair is bouncy and curly, or sleek and straight you can both achieve the look!

How to style curtain bangs

Curtain bangs are extremely low maintenance, however do need a little bit of styling if you want to keep them looking tame, but if you want the messy look feel free to let them air dry and fall into place.

To give your bangs that bounce and volume you see on celebrities, make sure to first wash your hair with a nourishing shampoo and conditioner. Consider a few sprays of leave-in conditioner then towel dry your hair until it’s just damp. For straight hair use a round brush to blow dry hair away from your face until dry. For curly hair it is best to let your bangs air dry to ensure each curl is defined.

Try out these looks

There’s no shortage of styles and looks when you have curtain bangs, but we have picked our favourite three for you to try!

Messy Ponytail: Many women prefer their hair to look all natural and messy. The messy ponytail gives off the ultimate laid back look. Simply let you bangs fall where they may and loosely grab your hair and tie it in the back loosely, preferably with a silk hair band for less breakage and will also keep the hair loose and effortless. We find this will look best when your hair is slightly curled to accentuate the messy look.

Half Up and Half Down: Half up half down involves sleek straight and blowdried bangs. Next, take half of your hair and secure if with bobby pins at the crown of your head. This is a more sophisticated look sported on many celebs who attended red carpet events throughout the years.

Bandana: If you are looking for an easy yet different hairstyle, a bandana solves everything! Do something a little different and secure your curly air dried hair into a top knot. Loosely pull the bun apart and pull out pieces to frame your face. Finally loosely tie a bandana securing it at the top. This look truly brings back the 70s in a fun and elegant way!
